I doubt many of you will have noticed but despite a momentary weakness induced by Fashion Week, I have pointedly refused to get swept up by the size zero hysteria. Well, until yesterday when I heard Kate Winslet tell the BBC's television "Sunday AM" program how she is gripped with fear that her six year old daughter will soon fall into the evil super skinny trap. Now, without launching into a celebrity bashing tirade, does anybody else see the gag-worthy hypocrisy in all of this?Who is really 'betraying' who by bigging up the super skinny backlash? Is it not just as unrealistic and image damaging to tell naturally skinny girls that they need to change to be attractive, as it is the other way around? And if you believe Winslet's 'proud-to-be-me' spoutings, you would think her extra flesh brings insulation from the insecurities and tribulations of modern womanhood. But then the reality bites of her alleged nose job; her entirely, digitally altered image on the cover of GQ; and this month's air-brushed into oblivion photo shoot for Vogue. So why is England's Rose still trying to convince us she is Hollywood's everywoman? And if she is so confident and image-free, why would she worry that her daughter wouldn't turn out to be the same? Or could it be she is really just afraid vanity will be passed down the genes?

1) At 18 years old, she was anorexic. She left a sinking ship to sink one of her own.
2)If she would have lost weight, the Titanic would have stayed afloat.
3)She smoked 60 a day and has black teeth and gums.
4) She ranked #3 on Mr. Blackwell's Worst Dress List.
5)She has gigantic feet.
6) She separated from husband Jim Threapleton (2001).
She married Threapleton, a year after her boyfriend Stephen Tredre died of cancer (1998).
I read that about how IWnslet finds the glamorization of ultra-thin "size zero" models and actresses "unbelievably disturbing" and says she keeps magazines featuring such women away from her 6-year-old daughter.
But who is she to give ab today's emaciated actresses the business? Do they deserve it? Soem may say that she is hurting rather than helping. I agree
It is not 'I am so normal' it is 'I am so much better than all of you'.

Its always overweight or slightly overweight actresses that complain about thin actresses. You never hear really thin actresses like the olsens or Paris or such complain about really thin actresses. How do you spell "A-G-E-N-D-A"?
Anyways, it should be noted that Kate didn't marry a chubby male. Lose weight Kate. You don't have to slam thin actresses to feel good about yourself. Or do you?
Winslet is absolutely right. When I see Nicole Richie I wonder when she's going to get out of her Hallowe'en costume. Then I realize it's her IRL. GAWD.

I agree with CS. Neithera rgument is helpful. Healthy is different than fat or skinny and is what should be promoted.

And I am so relieved to read that I am not the only one who's heartily sick of her do goody going ons. It was bad enough when she dumped her husband and within weeks was drivelling on about her love for another man.
But the real sickener is that while the rest of us are desperately trying to lose the weight we piled on since Summer, Kate was warbling on GMTV last week about how the flab "just fell off me" after she went to see an alternative therapist who looked into her eyes, told her to cut out a few things - but to carry on eating butter and a whole host of other fattening goodies.
Ms Winslet's irritation factor is now off the map.

Cameron Diaz gets Jude Law and Kate Winslet gets… Jack Black? Seriously, Hollywood? I understand that he’s supposed to be impishly charming, and winning, and etcetera, but Kate Winslet is lit from the inside. It seems to me that for a woman to play opposite a guy as good looking as Kate Winslet, they’d tell her to lose a hundred and fifty pounds and consider plastic surgery. So glad someone else is totally put off by this movie. I don;t like chick flicks in general, but one that tries to convince me that Jack Black is romantic heart throb material, is reaching too far for me. As far as I’m concerned this isn’t even a rental. It’s a catch on HBO when you have nothing better to do.
Anonymous you’re right hollywood would require that of the women opposite of the winslet-man. what you’re forgetting is that losing all that weight and plastic surgery would make the jack black-woman just as bad and unsavory as you are implying jack black looks now. are you telling me that if rosanne was starring across from brad pitt (or whomever you fancy), she would be required to lose 150 pounds and get a face lift. somehow i doubt it, and i think hollywood knows it.

Courtney Love is the only image free person in Hollywood.
But she is also a very troubled diva. Kate Winslet us a hypocrite. She suffered anorexia for years and has had more surgery than she would ever admit. That love me as I am bit is a cop out I am afraid.
Ms. Winslet has had a huge amount of face and body work. see her photos about the time of filming her first movies. and then compare the nose and figure to her later work. She's suddenly like a new person.....

I got totally chic-flicked on Friday night. My wife and I went to "The Holiday". I have seen some pretty entertaining romantic comedies, but this one , given the strong cast, wasn't really that great. Better to wait for the DVD. See "Apocalypto" on the big screen. And take your older sons. The wife wouldn't have liked it.)
Winslet still looks very pretty, and if you think she's fat, you're psychotic. She's a good mother to hide those lousy magazines from her child, good show. Such a talented actress. What a beauty, I love the gal, so English.

While i agree some of the models today are indeed sickeningly skinny ... 90% of them are just naturally slim, and healthy ...
The world knows that the pressing problem in the UK and the US is not 'skinny people" but overweight/obese people.
Kate should be more worried about her daughter getting fat with her genes and todays processed food ... than anything else... and so should all the oerweight folks that have jumped on the blame the skinny folks wagon so gleefully....

As i said before i think Kate Winslet is lovely and also a great actress...
I personally find women who take care of their health (no matter what size) and have self confidence really attractive ....
And anyday... a kind and generous hearted woman is very very attractive .... no matter what her size ....
So please stop this bitching against skinny models... -- its obvious its not out of your big hearted concern for their health... but your own lack of self-confidence about your body that is causing this villification of models......
My god it looks nothing like her on the cover of vogue - she looks tanned and healthy, not like her usual 'English rose' complexion ( pale and pasty if we're honest)
