Totally agree. Estate agents are complete wastes of space/
Foxtons should be strung up on crimincal charges. Out of some strange superstitious fear that bad-mouthing our estate agents online might jeopardise the transaction I have held back for weeks from ... . But just for the record, Foxtons are evil. Evil, evil, evil. Buying or selling a house in London? Stay away from Foxtons. Why? Because they are evil.

There is a firm of estate agents called Copping Joyce
Great name. It sounds like the title of a slightly ribald whimsical British film, like Educating Rita.
The only estate agents with a better name are Hotblack Desiato, which, as anyone who didn't have enough friends in their pre-teen years knows from reading a lot of Douglas Adams, is also the name of a character in The Hitchhiker's Guide To the Galaxy.
I hope there is a five-a-side football league for estate agents and that sometimes Copping Joyce and Hotbalck Desiato meet on the field.
Oh, and I hate all estate agents. Especially Foxtons. Who are evil.
Does anybody know what "movement" actually means if an estate agents says it? Normally I'd think subsidence, but this being Foxtons, they are probably understating it so badly that it means the house used to be in Dalston but now it's in Hackney. Should I go and see it anyway? Do you think Foxtons would even let me or have I been blackballed for refusing their mortgages? Can anybody offer any guidance at all? I hate estate agents*.
Though I feel duty-bound to point out I once went to a dinner party with one who was very nice.
Tanya - From my experience when told a house had "movement" and I asked what that meant. He repeated that it had "movement". I asked whether he was trying to tell me that the house was falling down. He elaborated that the house was a "lovely property" but it "showed signs of historical movement" and that he had been there yesterday and "it shows signs of recent movement too" and that anybody who bought the house would "have to be prepared to take that on". I said I'd call him back. They really don't want to sell the property do they? Wankers all of them

There's a Worcestershire estate agent called Dolittle and Dalley. Really.
Some of the people I hate most in the world are estate agents. I hate generalisations, but all estate agents are slimy, money obsessed, lying idiots, who went to public school, but still didn’t get any A levels and so have to do an essentially unnecessary job for too much money. It’s not a generalisation. Show me one estate agent who isn’t like that and I will show you an estate agent who has lied to you to convince you that he isn’t like that and has thus confirmed just exactly how much he is like that in reality.
am currently having to deal with the rubbishy estate agents who are (half-heartedly) attempting to sell my flat for me and also the estate agents who are selling me my new house. The estate agents that are selling my place have annoyed me. They came round in late November and quoted me an asking price that was about 25,000 pounds higher than the estimate I had been given by a rival. The man (whose surname was Herring, so I thought I could trust him, but now I begin to wonder if this was some kind of trick. Maybe they print up cards in the office where they replace their real name with your surname, to make themselves appear like family) assured me that he would be able to get this amount. So what with him being related to me and being able to get me more money, I decided to go with his firm. A few weeks later they rang me and suggested the price was a bit high (like it had been my estimate. Like I was the one saying that I could sell it for that) and that maybe if I dropped 5000 pounds more people would come round. So I agreed. I still thought it was probably a bit on the expensive side, but you never know your luck.
Sure, the industry is riddled with bad apples (which isn't?) but there are honest estate agents out there. I'm one of them. You've just got to know what to look for. Don't be seduced by smooth talk, flash cars and sexy offices.
Ask yourself these fundamental questions: Does this guy really know what he is talking about? Does he have the experience to handle the sale of my most valuable asset? Do I believe that he will act in my best interests at all times?
You expect a certain standard of ethics from your estate agent; it would be jolly nice if we were extended the same courtesy.
