Comic disbelief

Was anyone else unnerved by just how well Blair managed to act out his part, in the "Am I Bovvered" diatribe to Catherine Tate on Comic Relief? Does it not raise questions over just when he is acting the rest of the time? Still, seeing his smug, self-congratulatory smirk as he joined in the frolics, I couldn't help but think of his potential response to public opinion against his policies:

"Am I bovvered? Thousands dead and social chaos after unjustified imperialist invasions of Iraq and Afghanistan? Bovvered? Millions lobbying against Trident? Face – bovvered? Reform of the House of Lords, telling the nation when I'm actually stepping down rather than stringing you along like brain-dead drones, student tuition fees, the disintegrating NHS,...Voters…bovvered…public opinion… I ain't bovvered!"

I loathe, loathe, loathe Comic Relief on TV - I cannot bear people who can`t sing and dance being embarassing as they sing and dance, and a night of Jonathan Woss and Ricky Gervais being un-funny. I would pay them to stay off my telly.

Hi Max--

Re: House of Lords I do believe that it is being a good watchdog. It publicises and defends principles of justice against the government’s human rights and terrorism legislation. I would hope the reformers preserve this positive function. My problem is not with what the House of Lords is doing, but with how its members are chosen.

As I see it, an elected upper house would make sense only in the context of a new written constitution that redefined the separation of powers.

Sorry, does that sound like a braying Constitution obsessed American? Apologies...

I watched it and thought, 'This guy's a great actor. He should go into politics one day'.

I think you are way too hard on Tony. At least he is trying to connect with the people. It is more than others even attempt to conceive of.

I wish he would stay in office.
